View All Support ResourcesIs 320×240 resolution enough, or should I pay more for higher resolution?
For most field inspections it's the professional sweet spot. 76,800 real pixels — each a genuine temperature reading, unlike budget cameras that interpolate fake pixels. Combined with 40 mK sensitivity and a 12 μm detector, it catches temperature differences as small as 0.04°C. Need more? The TK6/TK7/TK8 are there. But for daily electrical, HVAC, and building work, 320×240 gets it done.
What can I actually inspect with it?
- Electrical — panels, breakers, connections. Auto hot/cold spot tracker flags issues instantly.
- HVAC — duct leaks, coil performance, compressor checks. Covers -20°C to 450°C.
- Building — missing insulation, moisture intrusion, thermal bridging. Picture-in-Picture mode documents exactly where each issue is.
- Mechanical — motors, pumps, bearings, steam traps. Catch abnormal heat before it becomes downtime.
Do I need thermography training?
No. The TK5 is focus-free — sharp from 0.4 m to infinity, no focus ring needed. For pros, it still has adjustable emissivity, color alarms, and T-DEF fusion for report-ready images when you need them.
How accurate is it?
±2°C or ±2%, the professional standard. All images save as radiometric JPEGs — every pixel stores temperature data. Open them later in the free AnalyzIR® software and re-measure anything without going back to site.
Will it survive being dropped or used in dusty, wet conditions?
The TK5 is IP54-rated against dust ingress and water splashes, and has been tested to withstand 2-meter drops onto concrete. In real-world terms:
- Work in a dusty factory or an attic full of insulation? Dust won't get inside.
- Light rain on a roof inspection? Splashes are fine.
- Drop it off a ladder? It's designed to survive.
At 0.72 kg (1.59 lbs), it's light enough to carry all day and balanced well enough to operate one-handed while holding a ladder with the other.
How long does the battery last?
4+ hours per charge. The battery is field-replaceable — pop it open, swap in a spare, keep working. USB-C fast charging gets you a full recharge in 2.5 hours. One spare battery covers a full workday.
How is this different from the cheaper thermal cameras I see online?
The thermal camera market has two very different tiers, and the gap matters:
- Cheap consumer-grade cameras (under $300) typically use small detectors with low native resolution, limited temperature range, and no meaningful accuracy spec. They're fine for finding a draft around a window, but not for professional diagnostics or reportable measurements.
- The TK5 is a professional instrument: genuine 320×240 resolution (not interpolated), ±2°C accuracy you can put in a report, radiometric image files for post-analysis, IP54 durability, and a removable battery that can be swapped in the field. It also includes AnalyzIR® PC software at no extra cost — a tool that many competitors charge a subscription for.
If you're being paid to find problems and your reputation depends on getting it right, the TK5 pays for itself in the first few jobs you don't have to redo.
